silence is my old friend, as Simon and Garfunkel sang about the darkness.
growing up as an only child, i spent a lot of time alone. i had my favorite quiet spot by the window where i would sit and read. when we went to move, my mother was a bit annoyed at the worn spot on the carpet. i had my favorite tree in the backyard where i would sit and contemplate the world.
today, this chair in the living room is my quiet spot. there's almost never true silence. i hear the cat in the next room, i hear cars rushing off to jobs and school. tinnitus sings a song in my head that i can't quite catch. but it is my soul that most needs quieted in order to hear the still, small voice.
more and more, i dream of what the new earth of Jesus' kingdom will look like. i imagine
standing at the top
of a rugged mountain
and the only sound i can hear
is His voice

ReplyDeleteOH MY...several things: the name of your blog ♥; tinnitus? I suffer too, sounds like machinery running all.the.time.; HIS voice... YES, Please. xo we are neighbors at Kate's. Thank you for visiting HHH.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I also appreciate times of silence, and I love that thought of standing on top of a mountain and all we can hear is Jesus' voice. Visiting from FMF#33.
