Thanksgiving

today, we celebrate being immigrants in need. as we sit with one another, shop with one another, drive down the road with one another, may we remember this humble fact. even the First Peoples came from the West looking for a new start.
some of our ancestors, be they African, Asian, or Irish, came here as slaves. some came as opportunists, looking for resources. some came as pilgrims, fleeing persecution. many of us will never know the story of our ancestors. may we love one another with the best of assumptions and the deepest humility because the truth of who we are is more than skin deep.
if you go back far enough, we all got off the same boat. i am thankful i get to come here and read your stories, thankful for the freedom to be friends, thankful that we are not chained to the past. may we all rejoice in being God's children, orphaned by our own sin and then adopted through His great love.
